Mt Royall and Harrington Place

The President's Corner.

Good Day All. As president of our Homeowner’s association, I hope to use this corner as “information central” between homeowners, the board and the management company. I welcome questions, concerns and input and plan to address concerns emailed to me (veatchlm@comcast.net) in this space.

Last fall, Jeffery D. Cook, Water Quality, SCDHEC Region 7 EQC, and homeowner in our community, provided a most information session on care and keeping of our ponds. Recently, he sent me an email:
“I thought that it might be beneficial to our ponds if you could post something on the website about fertilizing lawns since it is that time of the year. I have a few tips that might help keep some fertilizer out of the ponds”.
His information is excellent – look for it in the Ponds section below.

We've received emails from residents concerned with problematic behaviors of others, loud stereos playing in automobiles and inappropriate parking (on lawns and sidewalks and blocking egress). While we continue to resolve these issues, you can help. If at any time you become aware of such activity, please call the Charleston Police non-emergency number while the incident is happening at 843-577-7434. A patrol car will be dispatched.
Please also let us know of any problems.

I welcome any input / ideas community members may have as I know you know far more than I do.
As always, thank you all for making Mt. Royall/Harrington Place a wonderful community!

Sincerely,
Lynn M. Veatch
President, Mt. Royall/Harrington Place HOA.

Ponds

Tips to help keep fertilizer out of the ponds – reducing the algae growth:

1. Use phosphorus free lawn fertilizers (look for a "0" in the middle number on the label). Our soils are already high in phosphorus so excess runs into the ponds and fertilizes the algae. Excess phosphorus can also be detrimental to centipede grass.
2. Granular fertilizers require a "light watering" not a heavy downpour of rain. Do not apply if heavy rain is forecast or your fertilizer (and your money) will wash into the ponds.
3. Look at Clemson extension's website for more information on lawn care

Landscaping and Common Areas

You will also see that we have installed picnic tables and a bicycle rack outside of the pool area for use by community residents who wish to bike to the area. As always, ideas are welcome.

Pool

Etiquette for Use of the Family Pool by the Mt. Royall/Harrington Place Community

Good Morning All

The pool in the Mt. Royall/Harrington Place is an amenity for all families residing in the community who are in good standing with the community HomeOwners Association (HOA). Homeowners pay for a facility which is clean and appropriately maintained and an environment which is appropriate for the entire community, including the many small children who are part of our community.

While most of us strive to maintain this facility in a clean and orderly fashion, there have been several incidents recently, where actions of individuals at the pool have been disruptive or otherwise problematic.

Please make sure you read and understand the rules governing use of the pool. The sign is mounted in the entryway to the pool between the men’s and women’s restrooms. We need to highlight specific rules which have been violated recently

1. Under NO Circumstances is Glassware allowed in the Pool Area – this includes beer bottles and mason jars! Broken glassware at the pool can lead to DHEC required pool closure and drainage of the pool.

2. Community members are responsible for disposal of trash in proper receptacles and leaving the facility as you found it. Dumping large quantities of fast food trash and beer bottles into the restroom garbage cans is not appropriate. When you make a mess in the restroom – clean it up! Homeowners pay for cleaning services – currently twice a week. Increasing the number of visits increases the cost to each homeowner.

3. Profanity is out-of-line at any time in our community. Mt. Royall/Harrington place is a family-oriented community and we are fortunate to have many small children. Profanity will not be tolerated and individuals using profanity will be asked to vacate the pool.

4. The pool is an amenity for use ONLY by Homeowners in Good Standing and their guests. When entering and exiting the pool gate, don’t let individuals you either do not know or know to not be residents enter. If you are aware of ongoing issues, please contact a board member at, mtroyall@grand-oaks.org
or our Property Management Company. courtenay@CharlestonGreenCommercial.com (843) 670-1333

Thank you – have a pleasant summer!
Sincerely,
Lynn M. Veatch
President Mt. Royall/Harrington Place HOA.

The pool is an amenity for all community members in good standing. In order to maintain an environment that is both safe and enjoyable, everyone needs to abide by the rules for use of the pool. These include

1. No glass or breakable containers of any kind are allowed in the pool area.
2. No smoking is permitted in the pool area.
3. No person under the influence of alcohol or drugs, legal or not, are allowed in the pool area.
See all Pool Rules.

If you do not have a Gate Code, please contact the Manager.

Note : when you leave the pool area, please take down the umbrellas. As strong storms are common to Charleston and can come in quite quickly, having the umbrellas down when no one is in the area helps protect them. Thanks!
